Beautiful surroundings of Sa Kaeo

Captain Van and his wive Vanchanphen with many aircraft celebrating the opening of his new airport.

NOV 2019 -- NEW AIRPORT IN THAILAND AT KLONG 4 -- However, this airport is on the approach path for Don Muang Airport, so the CAAT has not yet given approval for this airport to open. The runway is appx 1 kilometer.

NOV 2019 -- NEW AIRPORT IN KLAENG -- All sorts of new airports popping up. This one is 5 kilometers from Klaeng. We are not sure of the new name, but it is also for skydiving with a Kodiak based there. So now we have 2 skydiving airports right next to each other doing the same thing.

JAN 2019 -- BANANA AIRPORT UP AND RUNNING -- Thai Sky Adventures Pilatus Porter base is finally open. This is located at BUT 012* Radial 29 DME (from U-Taphao). It is a short undulating 500m grass runway with slope and obstructions, so make sure you know what you are doing before going there. The airport is named after the runway which is shaped like a banana and also the owner who designed the airport and the ditch which also looks like a banana. Bring your bananas.

NOV 2019 -- TFC INCREASED FEES -- The TFC has asked owners to pay more money to the club. 12,000 membership. 15,000 facility fee. 8,000 per month parking. This money raised from these fees is approximately 300,000 Baht and will apparently go to repair the roof of the 3 hangars which are leaking and to pay the insurance on the club aircraft.

JUN 2019 -- TFC ADVENTURE -- TFC is now offering an exciting new adventure for new members. If you come to join the club, you can then get a free boat ride with Club President Khun Pee in his boat. You will be escorted onto the boat by Senior Members Fernando or Captain Worawoot and then you can circle the lake behind the club for up to an hour. This a a good chance to listen to Khun Pee and to meet our Senior Members. Make sure you ask Khun Tui about this special TFC Adventure offer. Don't miss the boat.

5 MAY 2019 -- TFC FINALLY HAS SOME NEW INSTRUCTORS -- After several years, the club now has 2 young, English-speaking Flight Instructors and Safety Pilot to take care of all our members and visitors. Our new Instructors are Kruu Thomas and Kruu George. Our FAA BFR pilot is Khun Alex. They  are available on weekends and during the week to fly (Club closed on Monday and Tuesday). In addition, Kruu Thomas is setting up the new TFC Ground School and is our expert at passing the CAAT Exam (Thai Air Law & Human Factors) which is required for validating your foreign license to fly in Thailand. Please email us if you want to make an Introduction Flight (30 minutes), or to try some flight training or sight-seeing during your visit to Thailand, or to do a BFR   for your FAA license. If you are interested in validating your license, you will need to join the club (10,000 Baht) and we will start you on the process (which can take 3-6 months). If you want to bring an airplane to Thailand, we can help you do that too. You can base it at the club, and the club can help organize maintenance and explain the procedures for operating in Thailand -- info@thaiflyingclub.com

A BRACE OF EXTRAS -- History was made in Thailand this past weekend (05 May 2019) when Khun Charn took his Extra 330 up into the air over Sriracha followed a few minutes later by Kruu Yeaw in the Extra 300. This was the first time in TFC History that we had 2 Extras in the air at the same time. Khun Charn is 78 years old, but you wouldn't know it when he is strapped into his Extra. Khun Thomas was aboard with Khun Charn. Kruu Yeaw was at the controls of the other Extra 300, and he had a Bush Pilot passenger that he was bound and determined to put through his paces. Away they went for a full 20 minutes of high impact aerobatic activity (outside loops, lomchevacs (sp?), and everything else to release the cookies). The skies were on fire. Kruu Yeaw's 6 year old daughter, named "Extra," was also on hand, and it was a great afternoon of activity. Khun Charn had a new parachute, and one of the passengers had a special, newly designed, umbrellachute.

CLUBHOUSE REPAIRS & NEW ATC -- We are repairing the clubhouse. The deck has fallen away, so we are starting to repair and bring the club back on line. We also have a new ATC Gung at the club, who is manning the radio on the weekends. Khun Gung is a Senior ATC at the U-Taphao Navy Airbase, and we are very lucky to have him help coordinate our aerial operations on the weekend. TF C President Khun Pee has presided over the club for the past 10 years or so, and he stopped by to meet new TFC Instructor Kruu Fluke and ATC Gung and Chan Beaw's daughter Om.

KHUN JACQUES DELIVERS AOPA MAGAZINES TO TFC -- Our very long time member, Khun Jacques, has recently generously donated over a hundred recent and past AOPA Magazines to the club. On hand were Toon's lovely wife "Tiffy" and TFC Navy Mechanic, Khun Beaw, to receive the generous donation from Khun Jacques. Anyone is welcome to come to the club office and have a look through all the magazines.

NEW AIRPORTS -- We have some new airports in Thailand. Khun Uthai has just finished a new one up north. There is a new one under construction about 10 NM North of Klaeng. The Banana Airport for Thai Sky Adventures PC-6 aircraft is finally open (but it is only 500 m). Pattaya Airpark is closed. Sriracha is in the process of being closed. Michel Ryf found a new airport just North of Chonburi. Khun Damri reports a new airport opening soon near Klong 4, but we don't know the name yet. The "A Team" has moved out to Roi Et to maintain Khun Mong's new CPL School. The horse has left Bang Phra (we don't know where it went, but it is a good step forward).

LEARN TO FLY AUTOGYROS IN THAILAND -- You won't get a license, but you will get top level English-speaking instruction with certification of training in a logbook. Finally, foreigners can learn to fly in Thailand without delay or complication. Everyone in welcome and you can come for INTRODUCTION and INSTRUCTION FLIGHTS if you are thinking of buying an Autogyro, or FULL 20-Hour Flying Course. More information -- AUTOGYRO THAILAND

FEB 2018 -- NEW C150 NOW ON TFC FLEET -- The very good news is that TFC has accepted Turbo san's beautiful C150 onto the club fleet. After many years of paperwork and pausing, the plane is now on the roster and ready to fly. This aircraft will be for cross-country use and for FAA IPC and BFR checks. FAA pilots all over Asia will be able to come and fly our FAA CFI members to keep current with their BFR and Instrument Currency according to FAA FAR "14 CFR § 61.57(d)—Instrument Proficiency Check." This also means that we can get our Thai instructor training for his CFI in the USA to come and reopen the TFC Groundschool and Flying School which have been closed since June 2014. Turbo san bought this C150 in beautifully restored condition from Jeff Nash in Udon. It has a working VOR and Garmin GPS for use as an ADF. There is a beautiful intercom and radios are 100%. This plane will not be for training touch and go's, but is perfect for cross-country. It will be 700 Baht more expensive that the other C150 and all pilots must be prior approved by the club and Turbo san. The idea was proposed on 10 Jun and accepted on 31 Jul by Captain Worawoot.

SEP 2017 -- NEW AIRPORT IN THAILAND AT KLONG 11 -- A beautiful new airport has appeared in Thailand. This one is for a new flying school. We will be updating you shortly with Steve and Mac's discovery.

AUG 2017 -- NEW FRIEND IN KENG KRAJAN -- Mike has shared with us a new friend and place to stay when flying to Keng Krajan Airport (coming soon)

09 JAN 2017 -- EAA UPDATE -- The first replica DH-2 ever to be built in Thailand is nearing completion in Bangkok. Longtime EAA member, Khun Damri, has been working on this project for several years, and now it just needs an engine and some brakes. It will most likely make its debut flight in Bang Phra.www.eaathai.com

SEP 2016 -- HISTORIC "FLYING THE HUMP" C47 FLIGHT UPDATE -- The C47 had an engine failure 1hr 30min out of Bali. The left engine started to smoke, then vibration, then fire. The crew diverted to Surabaya, Indonesia and made a successful emergency landing. Thank you to the support of many TFC members and Thai Aviators, a replacement engine has been purchased and will be on the way to Surabaya this month. As soon as the engine is installed, the trip will continue. The C47 took off from Australia on 16 August to pass through Thailand on its way to Burma, then "Over the Hump" across the Himalayas into China. The aircraft will be on permanent display at the Flying Tiger Museum in Guilin, China. 600 allied aircraft were lost on this hazardous journey during WWII to supply the Flying Tigers inside of China. A veteran crew of aviators will guide the craft from Australia. The journey can be followed on -- www.flyingthehump.com -- TFC instructor Kruu Jira has over 6,000 hours on DC-3s in Thailand, so he will be flying down with Turbo san to meet the C47 during its stop at U-Taphao to refuel. ETA U-Taphao in Mid October. We have to pump 10 drums of avgas into the wings on the ground U-Taphao, so we call all our TFC friends to fly down with Turbo and Kruu Jira to help us pump and take photos with the C47.

JUN 2019 -- TFC FLYING SCHOOL STATUS -- Exactly FIVE years ago this month, The TFC Office Staff decided not to buy a used C150 (HS-LAX) to keep the flying school open after losing their C150 trainer. They decided to repair the 3 club aircraft, and mechanic Num was very confident about the TFC Fleet. He said that on NOV 2014 (after 5 months) the 3 aircraft would be back in the air. The TFC Groundschool has been closed for five years. The DCA (now changed name to CAAT) has inspected the aircraft and wrote out a squawk list of snags that need to be addressed before the aircraft can fly. In June 2014, the club had decided not to buy the C150 (HS-LAX) that would have been on the TFC fleet status in 3 months and available for flight training. As soon as we hear some progress on the flight training, we will let you know.

SEP 2015 -- TFC "MINI MAPS" NOW AVAILABE -- It is very difficult to find aviation maps in Thailand, so now at TFC  and EAA HQ we have for sale the TFC MINI MAPS. These are A4 size or double A4 size laminated maps to scale with all the current radio frequencies, airports, controlled airspace and other information for you to easily navigate around the area. If you are interested in a TFC Mini Map, you can find at the AERO SHOP in Bangkok or in the TFC club office or at Eastern EAA HQ airport.

MOBILE AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE -- THE "A TEAM" -- For those of you in Thailand with aircraft that need maintenance, and perhaps you do not have on the field, Khun Tui and his sons have formed the "A TEAM." Specializing in Piston Aircraft, the "A Team" can help you. For years, the A Team has kept the Damri Squadron on top form and worked on many types of aircraft in the Kingdom. They can do all the documentation and maintenance work at a very reasonable price -- MEET THE A TEAM

EAA THAI05 FEB 2105 -- EAA THAILAND RECEIVES OFFICIAL EAA CHAPTER #1566 -- It is now official. EAA USA has recognized and awarded EAA THAILAND as Chapter #1566 to represent EAA "Spirit of Aviation" in Thailand. The Headquarters for EAA THAILAND is at Eastern Airport, so come visit and enjoy the best breakfast or pizza at any airport in Thailand on every SUNDAY. Thank you to all EAA Members in Thailand that supported and sponsored the founding of EAA Chapter #1566 -- www.eaathai.com

SEP 2014 -- HI-TECH WEATHER REPORTING FOR SMALL AIRPORTS IN THAILAND -- Enthusiastic aviator Ed has informed us that now NOK airfield and PHUKET AIRPARK have live WEATHERLINK updates online and ready to view immediately. We also hear that Jim is obtaining the same system to install at EASTERN airfield. This is amazing technology and a great safety feature for General Aviation in Thailand. You can click the link and see current WIND, RAIN, TEMP information as well as other helpful information for flying, and it is updated every 30 seconds 24 hours a day. Have a look and get as many other airfields to set this system up too.

We now have ACF-50 available in the club in spray bottles for 2,000 Baht per bottle (ask Tui in the office or email info@thaiflyingclub.com). Do not ignore corrosion -- it will kill your airplane -- more info on ACF-50.
